Sisters Academy of Baltimore

canine companion dog with childThe Kathy and Jerry Wood Foundation has awarded Sisters Academy of Baltimore three grants of $50,000 each in 2012, 2013, and 2014.

Sisters Academy of Baltimore, a Catholic, community-centered middle school, educates girls of different races, ethnic groups, and religions, from families of limited economic means, particularly those in southwest Baltimore. The girls are in grades 5-8. The Academy empowers its students to become agents of transformation in their families, communities, and society.

The estates of Mr. and Mrs. Wood established the Foundation to “…Found or to provide scholarships for deserving young men and women who are citizens of the United States and to assist them in attending any educational institution in the United States.”

The Woods, founders of both the Annapolis Sailing School and the Annapolis Boat Shows, had no children of their own but employed many young people in their businesses and took great pleasure in seeing them mature and take on responsibility.
