canine companion dog with childVillage of Hope is an afterschool program located at Whitney Elementary School in Las Vegas, Nevada. The school works closely with students and their families to provide a safe and warm environment, giving them positive and healthy alternatives to gangs, drugs and destructive behavior. Some of the services offered include after-school tutoring, mentoring, youth empowerment programs, self-esteem building and education through arts and crafts. The Foundation provided a grant of $75,000 in 2012, and $50,000 in 2014.

The estates of Mr. and Mrs. Wood established the Foundation to “…Found or to provide scholarships for deserving young men and women who are citizens of the United States and to assist them in attending any educational institution in the United States.”

The Woods, founders of both the Annapolis Sailing School and the Annapolis Boat Shows, had no children of their own but employed many young people in their businesses and took great pleasure in seeing them mature and take on responsibility.
