With a huge focus on bettering the lives of children and young adults, the Kathy & Jerry Wood Foundation gifted the Chicago Youth Programs  (CYP) with generous donations. This organization serves those individuals who are least likely to have access to support both educationally and socially. The students at CYP are provided with comprehensive resources to meet their educational and developmental needs at each stage of their journey. These grants will afford more students the opportunity to grow through these programs.

CYP is an award-winning, innovative program created by Northwestern University medical students in 1984. CYP currently offers services in three under-served communities: Near North/ Cabrini Green, Washington Park, and Uptown. CYP provides over 40 comprehensive programs to at-risk youth, ages 3-25, living in those three communities. Their goal is to empower each of the youth to escape poverty by attaining the skills and degree necessary to succeed. With violence prevalent in our communities, and having broad, detrimental effects on our children’s health and ability to function in schools, CYP utilized our grants to build a multi-faceted approach to helping address this threat to our youth. All of the programming is free to students and CYP provides transportation to and from the programs.
