Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology
- Year: 2010 - 2013
- Category: Scholarships
- Location: Annapolis, MD
- Education Level: College
The Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology was gifted the most substantial scholarship program in its 80-year history. There is a potential to reduce tuition rates for qualifying students to levels not seen since the early 1980s.
The institute and the foundation have a strong connection through Westlawn’s parent company, The American Boat & Yacht Council that is based in Annapolis, MD and just a short walking distance from the Annapolis Boat Show and even the Wood’s Annapolis home. Not only are both organizations dedicated to boating and education, but also enhancing boating safety and encouraging our nation’s youth to pursue the enjoyment of boating and careers in the boating industry. Because of this, it was an easy choice for the foundation to lend a helping hand to Westlawn.
Founded in 1930, the Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology is the only nationally accredited distance-learning school of small-craft design in the United States. Westlawn is accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council, in Washington, D.C., and is listed as an accredited school by the U.S. Department of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
